Cobalt Part 2

Medical conditions that may be the result of too much cobalt or too much Vitamin B-12 include:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Goiter
  • Damage to the kidneys
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Damage to the nerves of the body

During pregnancy it is important for the mother-to-be to supplement her diet with Vitamin B-12 to ensure that she and the growing baby get the right amounts of cobalt and the Vitamin.

When breastfeeding, the baby gets what it needs from the mother's milk and although a deficiency is rare in infants it is possible if the mother has a deficiency, such as in vegetarian mothers who have a limited amount of Vitamin B-12 in their systems.

If you have a gastrointestinal disorder, your body may not be able to absorb all the Vitamin B-12 it needs from the food you eat and therefore, you also need to take a supplement.
