Sulphur or Sulfur Part 2
Seafood is especially high in this mineral and dried fruits contain significant amounts as well. Individuals who follow a vegetarian diet may not be getting sufficient amounts of this mineral in their diet. In these cases, they need to supplement the mineral stores of the body by taking dietary supplements of sulphur.
Cases involving a deficiency in sulphur are rare, but they do occur. The symptoms associated with such a mineral deficiency in the body include skin problems or disorders of the skin, muscle pain, problems with the circulatory system, inflammation of the joints, increased feelings of stress, susceptibility to infections, constipation and more than the average amount of wrinkles on the skin.
Dry skin and loss of hair is often the first sign that you may have this type of mineral deficiency. Brittle hair and nails are also symptoms of which you should be aware.
A toxicity to sulphur has not been reported in humans, although it is quite common in plants. There is no exact recommended daily dosage for sulphur through dietary supplements. There are some individuals who do have a sensitivity to sulphur in medications and should advise their doctor when they have an infection of some kind.
